Saveiro is a typical sailing boat built for cargo transport, seen mostly in inshore waters in Bahia. There are several designs and sailing rigs of Saveiros some for inshore cargo transport, mostly in bays in the north of Brazil. They are found in gaff, square Latin and crab claw rigs.

It can carry huge tonnage with a small draft. They are built by local craftsmen who carry for several generations. Their construction is heavy and rude, but with great sailing capability. Gradually throughout the years, the Saveiros are becoming uncommon and less are built as the local timber is prohibited, which strongly reduced the construction of the Saveiros.

The use of thegraminho measurement gauge and also based on hand size. It is an exotic and peculiar cultural aspect in the construction.
