Escunas are typical Brazilian schooners, mostly constructed in Bahia for example in Marau. They are built with Sucupira and other trees, very hard, long and durable wood but these are finishing in the Atlantic Forest and are controlled due to species preservation. The graminho marking gauge from Arabic origin is used to draw and cut the main measures of the boats. The process is all craft made with no design. Beautiful Escunas up to 30 m long are mostly used for tourism transport. Text adapted and photos from website Viva Saveiro and Artimanha
