Jacaretinga or Jacaré-de-óculos

The Jacaretinga or Jacaré-de-óculos (Caiman crocodilus) inhabits various types of rivers and freshwater lakes in Brazil. It is named Jacaretinga because of its white belly (“tinga” means “white” in the Tupi language). Males grow to between 1.8 and 2.5 m in length and females 1.4 m. They feed on different species of animals: crustaceans, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and small mammals.
