Onça Parda or Suçuarana

The Onça Parda or Suçuarana (Puma concolor) also known as Jaguaruna or Leão-baio is a large solitary cat found from the Amazon, Cerrado, Pantanal and Atlantic Forest. Suçuarana is a term derived from the indigenous Tupi language term “syuasuarána”. Its coat varies from reddish brown to gray-blue. Its size can reach up to 2 m and adult males weigh up to 80 kg, while females 50 kg. A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the Suçuarana pursues a wide variety of mamals and reptiles, but it also hunts species as small as insects and rodents. It prefers habitats with dense forests and rocky areas for stalking.
