Baleia Jubarte

The Baleia-jubarte (Megaptera novaeangliae), also known as Baleia-preta, Baleia-corcunda, Baleia-xibarte, Baleia-cantora or Baleia-de-boss, is the Humpback whale a marine mammal of the order of cetaceans that live in seas worldwide. The species measure up to 20 meters and weight about 40 tons. It is a protected species since 1967 and in 2008. They come to the southern coast of Bahia in Abrolhos Islands, having traveled 7,000 km from Antarctica in search of warm, calm waters for breeding and birth of their babies.
