The Veado-mateiro (Mazama americana), also called Veado-vermelho, Veado-pardo, Catingueiro, Guatapará, Guaçupita, Guaçuetê, Suaçupita e Suaçuapitared, is a species of deer that have solitary habits and occupying forest areas from the level of areas of high sea to 5000 meters. Morphologically, is the largest species of the genus Mazama, featuring a robust aspect, with 30 to 40 kilograms, arched back with a up to 1.5 meters. In Brazil, there are five known species of Veado-mateiro.
