Occurs in flooded plains, and more rarely on land throughout the Amazon region.

Heartwood yellowish red, distinct from the sapwood with yellow dark spots. Highly resistant to attack by decay organisms. Uses in construction and boat building, furniture, decorative household items, toys, musical instruments and others.
