Coastal Region

The Coastal zone is the area covering more than 8500 kilometers of coastline that has variable width, about 80 nautical miles, defined in legislation for the purposes of environmental management, which spans 17 states along the coast of Brazil. It is a geopolitical concept that has nothing to do with the classification of biomes. It has the distinctive features in its long stretch through different biomes arriving to the coast, connecting to the biomes of the Amazon Rainforest, the Caatinga and the Atlantic Forest
