Açaí na Tigela is the Açaí fruit served in a bowl in paste as a meal or sidedish. The cold dish has been used by indigenous peoples and natives for hundreds of years in the Amazon region and became popular in Brazil in the due to its high protein value.
The Açaí is a fruit of purple colour. Its name comes from the Tupian word “ïwasa’i” which means “fruit that cries or expels water”. To be consumed must first be washed to loosen the pulp, and mixed with water. It is a very important food in the diet, where its use dates back to Pre-Columbian times.
